The analysis of professional competencies of information specialists in domestic libraries operating in the research environment is carried out. The research is based on a questionnaire on the ...relevance of certain groups of professional competencies: background knowledge and skills, knowledge and skills in the field of scholarly communication, “soft” skills. The target group of the survey included library staff engaged in information and analytical support of fundamental researches of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It is revealed that the overwhelming majority of respondents recognize the relevance of the competencies included in the survey for library practice. Based on the respondents’ responses, competencies are divided into two key categories: universal and specialized. More than 60 % of the competence groups in the sections “background knowledge and skills” and “knowledge and skills in the field of scholarly communication” are classified by the majority of respondents as specialized ones. Almost all “soft” skills are classified by the majority of respondents as universal ones. Competence groups classified as “universal” can be used as the basis for the development of a general competence model for scientific library staff working in a research environment. Competence groups classified as “specialized” – are of importance for the development of variable models of competencies for individual functional roles of employees engaged in information and analytical support of scientific research.
This paper introduces SpatialCluster, a Python library developed for clustering urban areas using geolocated data. The library integrates a range of methods for urban clustering, including Deep ...Modularity Networks, Gaussian Mixtures, K-Nearest Neighbours, Self Organized Maps, and Information-Theoretic Clustering, providing a comprehensive framework. These methods are evaluated using indices such as the Adjusted Rand Index and Adjusted Mutual Information, and the library includes features for detailed map visualization. SpatialCluster’s online documentation offers examples, making the library accessible to researchers and urban planners. The library aims to facilitate urban data analysis and contribute to the field of urban studies.
The article features libraries from a wide social and culture-forming perspective. The tasks and functions of libraries going beyond collecting, processing and disclosing information were ...established. Attention was drawn to the mediation nature of libraries, and to their role of an intermediary in social communication processes. The article puts emphasis on the fact that libraries can combine the offer of many other cultural centers, thus oftentimes they have functions similar to those of art galleries, museums or concert halls. The main conclusion, however, was that libraries are meeting places for local communities and a space where one can relax while doing something productive. That is why the concept of a third place was referred to. It can be implemented also by libraries functioning at centers for medical studies and centers for professional development of medical personnel, especially considering the fact that – according to librarians – medical students spend much more time on campus (and hence also in libraries, which are learning centers) than at home. The article attempted to present the solutions applied by selected medical libraries in the world. Some interesting projects were discussed based on analysis of the literature.

The assessment of the results of the survey was formed on the basis of the skills constructor. It was built as a result of the analysis of educational standards, curricula, literature on the modern development of bibliographic activity and the competence of librarians. Each block of the survey was completed with open questions, allowing respondents the indication of any competencies they think should be included. It was determined that the importance of the competencies of a bibliographer for libraries of different types is different, in this regard, the article presents the summary rating of the competencies of a bibliographer, as well as a comparative analysis of the importance of the competencies of a bibliographer working in libraries of different types (university / scientific and public).
The purpose of the article is to carry out a comprehensive analysis of the fonds of scientific libraries in Lviv (the Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv, Lviv State ...Regional Universal Scientific Library, Scientific Library of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv) regarding the presence of informal Ukrainian newspapers in them of the late 80’s and early 90’s of the 20th century. Among concrete scientific methods applied: historical and descriptive, analytical, problem-thematic, structural and typological. Quantitative and qualitative analysis was also used when processing the obtained results of the research. The scientific novelty of the research results lies in the fact that, for the first time in the history of Ukrainian press studies, an array of informal Ukrainian newspapers of the late 80s and early 90s of the 20th century, which today are kept in the leading scientific library institutions of Lviv, has been analyzed.
