This paper examines the emotional effects of consuming frightening foods or drinks. We argue that in addition to maintaining energy homeostasis and attaining pleasure, a third possible benefit of ...eating is the enhancement of perceived mastery over that which is eaten. Hence, the intake of frightening foods or drinks should increase a consumer's self‐confidence in dealing with fear. The findings of our three experimental studies confirm our counterintuitive predictions, namely that consuming frightening (vs. nonfrightening) foods or drinks leads to a significant reduction of fears arising from prior experiences of frightening activities and a significant increase in tolerance of prospective frightening activities. In addition, self‐confidence in dealing with fear is shown to significantly mediate the predicted effects of consuming frightening foods or drinks.
Simulation is a promising strategy in health education, with evidence of importance for learning, but the available systematic reviews are still inconclusive about the effect of the strategy on ...stress, anxiety, and self-confidence of nursing students, which impact the adherence to and sustainment of this strategy. Thus, better evidence is needed of the impact of simulation on these competences, essential for health professional education.
To evaluate the effect of simulation-based experiences on stress, anxiety, self-confidence and learning of undergraduate nursing students compared to conventional teaching strategies or no intervention.
Systematic review with meta-analysis and meta-regression.
The databases used included: CENTRAL, CINAHL, Embase®, ERIC, LILACS, MEDLINE, PsycINFO®, SCOPUS and Web of Science. Additional searches occurred in PQDT Open (ProQuest), BDTD, Google Scholar and journals with a specific scope in clinical simulation.
This study was conducted by the recommendations of the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions. Experimental and quasi-experimental studies that compared the effects of simulation on stress, anxiety, and self-confidence of nursing students were included. Study selection and data extraction steps were performed independently by two reviewers. Critical appraisal of the studies was managed by means of the risk of bias tools RoB 2 and ROBINS-I, and quality of evidence by means of the GRADE tool. Data summarization was performed by qualitative synthesis with descriptive analysis and quantitative synthesis by meta-analytic methods and meta-regression.
Sixty-two studies were included covering an overall sample of 4570 undergraduate nursing students. When comparing simulation with other teaching strategies, simulation showed small effect size for anxiety (d = −0.33; 95% CI: −0.66–0.002; p = 0.051) and medium effect size for self-confidence (d = 0.71; 95% CI: 0.46–0.95; p < 0.001); there was no difference in the effect-size for stress (d = 0.04; 95% CI:-0.91–0.99; p = 0.90). Subgroup analyses showed an effect of methodological characteristics of the studies on students' anxiety and self-confidence. A positive relationship between self-confidence and learning was identified by meta-regression (p = 0.018; R2 = 20.96%).
Simulation is an effective strategy for reducing anxiety and increasing self-confidence compared to conventional teaching strategies. Results are still inconclusive for stress. The use of simulation-based experiences in nursing education obtains positive results on anxiety and self-confidence in students, providing support for its implementation in undergraduate curricula to improve the education of qualified nurses.

Purpose
Noncognitive indicators, such as personality type and self‐confidence, have been used as predictors of achievement. Accordingly, we investigated whether self‐confidence in clinical skills ...predicts academic success among predoctoral senior dental students.
Methods
Two consecutive cohorts (N = 336) of predoctoral senior dental students were invited to rate their self‐confidence in clinical procedures twice: at the beginning and at the end of the academic year. Academic performance in clinical assessments was retrieved from scholastic records. Multiple linear regression models were constructed to predict clinical assessment grades using self‐confidence scores as a predictor after controlling for possible confounders.
Results
Self‐confidence scores in clinical procedures were positively correlated with clinical and academic performance. Self‐confidence in clinical procedures and grade point averages were consistent predictors of student performance. Additionally, self‐confidence had improved at the end of the senior year (p = 0.003).
Conclusions
Self‐confidence in clinical procedures was a predictor of future clinical success. Therefore, fostering and nurturing the confidence of students and integrating self‐confidence assessment into the curricula at relevant timepoints should be a goal in dental education. Moreover, self‐assessment of confidence in clinical skills could be used to guide students and graduates in developing their own personal development plan.
The goal of this study was to see what effect locus of control and self-confidence had on the prosocial behavior and religiosity of students at State Islamic University Datokarama. The methodology ...employed was quantitative. The data was analyzed using multiple linear regression correlation, which was done with SPSS for Windows version 17. This study covered four variables, consisting of two independent variables and two dependent variables, namely locus of control (X1) and self-confidence (X2) as independent factors and prosocial behavior (Y1) and religiosity (Y2) as dependent variables, with a total of 30 students as samples. The Likert scale was utilized as the instrument or data-gathering tool by the researcher. (1) Locus of control has a considerable effect on IAIN Palu students' prosocial conduct. People with an internal locus of control contributed to their competency by exercising environmental control. (2) The locus of control variable had a substantial effect on IAIN Palu students' religiosity. The man diligently followed his religious teachings and commitments. (3) The self-confidence variable had a substantial effect on IAIN Palu students' prosocial conduct. Prosocial behavior is defined as behavior that demonstrates a student's concern and attention through acts that help others. (4) The self-confidence variable had a substantial effect on IAIN Palu students' religiosity. Their acts were free of concern. They were free to do anything they wanted, were accountable for their acts, and were courteous in their relationships with others.
Studi purpose: As an athlete who has a demand to excel when competing, anxiety in athletes becomes one of the conditions that athletes often experience which affects the athlete's performance in ...facing the match. One of the mental factors that trigger athletes' psychology is anxiety, self-confidence, and resilience factors. This study aimed to determine the level of anxiety, self-confidence, and resilience of Sian Soor junior athletes in the sport of tennis.
Materials and methods: This type of research was descriptive quantitative, which is to see a description of the psychological aspects of junior athletes Sian Soor tennis court. The research location was conducted at the Sian Soor tennis Mayor of Jayapura City Papua. The population in this study were all junior athletes Sian Soor Jayapura City Papua involving 25 people from the age group 10 to 18 years. The sample was taken based on random sampling with a total of 18 athletes. The instruments used in data collection were anxiety, self-confidence, and resilience instruments.
Results. Based on data analysis from 18 athletes the results that the anxiety aspect was very high (5.56%), high (22.22%), moderate (44.44%), and low (27.78%). Aspects of confidence were very high (5.56%), high (16.67%), medium (61.11%), and low (16.67%). The resilience aspect was high (16.67%), medium (66.67%), and low (16.67%).
Conclusions. Based on the results obtained in this study, it is concluded that Junior Sian Soor athletes in Jayapura City Papua on the dominant anxiety aspects of the moderate category, aspects of self-confidence in the moderate category, and resilience in the moderate category. therefore it is suggested to the coach to provide interventions in the form of mental training, especially to increase self-confidence and resilience, so that the degree of anxiety competing can be minimized.
The design of this research was correlational research. This research aimed to find out the correlation between students’ self-confidence and speaking skills at the twelfth grade of SMA N 2 ...Bukittinggi. The background of this research was there were several problems related to students’ self-confidence, and those problems were contrary to the theory. The population of this research was all of the twelfth-grade students of SMA N 2 Bukittinggi in the academic years of 2020/2021, which consists of 8 classes. The sample was 28 students taken by simple random sampling technique. The research results showed that there is a correlation between students’ self-confidence and their speaking skill. The researcher found that the coefficient of correlation between students’ self-confidence and their speaking skill was 0,286. There was a positive correlation and significance. It means that Ho is accepted. Thus, there is a positive correlation between students’ self-confidence and speaking skills at the twelfth grade of SMA N 2 Bukittinggi.
Across 6 studies we investigated the development of overconfidence among beginners. In 4 of the studies, participants completed multicue probabilistic learning tasks (e.g., learning to diagnose ..."zombie diseases" from physical symptoms). Although beginners did not start out overconfident in their judgments, they rapidly surged to a "beginner's bubble" of overconfidence. This bubble was traced to exuberant and error-filled theorizing about how to approach the task formed after just a few learning experiences. Later trials challenged and refined those theories, leading to a temporary leveling off of confidence while performance incrementally improved, although confidence began to rise again after this pause. In 2 additional studies we found a real-world echo of this pattern of overconfidence across the life course. Self-ratings of financial literacy surged among young adults, then leveled off among older respondents until late adulthood, where it begins to rise again, with actual financial knowledge all the while rising more slowly, consistently, and incrementally throughout adulthood. Hence, when it comes to overconfident judgment, a little learning does appear to be a dangerous thing. Although beginners start with humble self-perceptions, with just a little experience their confidence races ahead of their actual performance.
This research reports an investigation into whether the personality aspect of self‐confidence affects the compromise effect. We hypothesize that highly self‐confident people have greater certainty in ...making decisions and are more attracted to risk‐taking, which makes them less likely to choose the safe or middle option in a large choice set. The three studies involved are conducted using between‐ and within‐subjects experimental designs. Various product categories are used to generalize the findings. Study 1 looks at purchasing decisions and utilizes three scales of self‐confidence, risk preference, and uncertainty; it demonstrates that consumers with high self‐confidence are less likely to choose a compromise option due to high certainty in their decision‐making. Study 2 discovers that people with low self‐confidence are more likely to choose the middle option in a risky condition than in a nonrisky condition. Study 3 decomposes self‐confidence into general and specific self‐confidence, and reveals that people with low general self‐confidence and low specific self‐confidence are more likely to choose the middle option.

Nous faisons l'hypothèse que les personnes ayant une confiance en soi élevée manifestent une plus grande certitude quand elles prennent des décisions et sont plus enclines à la prise de risque, ce qui les rend moins susceptibles d'opter pour la possibilité prudente ou du milieu dans un vaste ensemble de choix. Les trois études reposent sur des plans expérimentaux inter‐sujets et intra‐sujets. Plusieurs catégories de produits sont utilisées afin de permettre la généralisation des résultats. La première étude porte sur les décisions d'achat et utilise trois échelles qui sont la confiance en soi, la préférence pour les risques et l'incertitude. Elle montre que les clients ayant une confiance en soi élevée sont moins susceptibles de choisir une option de compromis étant donné leur grande certitude lors de la prise de décision. La deuxième étude révèle que les personnes ayant une faible confiance en soi sont plus susceptibles de choisir l'option du milieu dans une condition de risque que dans une condition sans risques. La troisième étude distingue la confiance en soi générale et la confiance en soi spécifique. Elle montre que les personnes ayant un faible niveau de confiance général et un faible niveau de confiance spécifique sont plus susceptibles de choisir l'option du milieu.
Este estudio investiga si el aspecto de la personalidad de la confianza propia afecta al efecto de compromiso. La hipótesis es que las personas que tienen mucha confianza en sí mismas tienen mayor seguridad a la hora de tomar decisiones y son más propensos a asumir riesgos, lo que hace que sean más bajas las probabilidades de que elijan la opción segura o del medio dentro de un conjunto amplio de decisiones. En los tres estudios se utilizan diseños experimentales inter e intra sujetos. Se utilizan diversas categorías de productos para generalizar los hallazgos. El Estudio 1 se focaliza en las decisiones de compra, y se utilizan tres escalas de confianza propia, preferencia de riesgo, e incertidumbre, y muestra que el consumidor con un elevado grado de confianza propia tiene menor probabilidad de elegir una opción de compromiso debido a la certeza que tiene al tomar decisiones. El Estudio 2 descubre que las personas con baja confianza propia son más propensas a elegir la opción del medio ante una situación de riesgo que en una situación donde no hay riesgo. En el Estudio 3 se divide la confianza propia en dos categorías (general y específica), y se revela que las personas con baja confianza propia general y baja confianza propia específica son más propensas a elegir la opción del medio.

Introduction: Universities are responsible for nurturing nurses who have clinical skills and confidence. Self-confidence is one of the main components of clinical work and, nursing students have more ...efficient self-confidence. This review study aimed to find strategies for self-confidence improvement in nursing students.
Methods: To conduct this review study initially, using the keywords self-confidence, professional self-confidence and the self-confidence of nursing students in Persian and English, separately and in combination, between 2008 and 2018, a total of 1536 articles were obtained from Medline, CINAHL, ProQuest, Ovid and Science Direct databases. The full text of the articles was reviewed for inclusion and exclusion criteria and finally, 16 articles were selected for the final analysis.
Result: The findings indicated the efficacy of the short-term educational program on self-confidence skills of baccalaureate nursing students. Studies have shown that students demonstrate greater abilities in terms of knowledge, critical thinking, clinical understanding, or satisfaction upon simulation-based learning.
Conclusion: Simulation-based nursing educational interventions have strong and special educational effects in the field of psychology, especially in promoting the self-confidence of nursing students. Therefore, due to its positive effect on students' self-confidence, this method is proposed as a superior educational method in nursing students.
Aims
This study identified clinical nurses' awareness of emergency codes and disaster nursing competencies and investigated the relationships between these variables.
Background
Nurses are on the ...front lines of disaster and emergency response; however, they report not feeling confident about their disaster preparedness.
Methods
Participants included 234 nurses working at a general hospital in Korea. Emergency code awareness was measured by recognition of and self‐confidence in eight emergency codes, and disaster nursing competencies were measured using the Disaster Nursing Preparedness Response Competency Scale. Data were collected from 17 to 23 October 2019.
Results
The recognition rate of emergency codes was 87.4%, whereas the level of self‐confidence was 3.30 out of 5. Nurses scored 2.98 out of 5 on disaster preparedness competencies and 3.37 out of 5 on disaster response competencies. Emergency code recognition was positively correlated with self‐confidence and disaster nursing competencies (p < .05).
Conclusion
Higher recognition of emergency codes among clinical nurses was associated with higher self‐confidence and disaster nursing competencies. Further studies need to develop strategies to improve nurses' awareness and confidence concerning emergency codes.
Implications for Nursing Management
Nurse managers should pay attention to provide more opportunities for disaster education to improve nurses' self‐confidence and disaster nursing competencies.
