Pour E. Marlière, il faut avant tout considérer l'islam radical dans sa dimension politique critique, c'est-à-dire l'appréhender comme l'une des voies contemporaines de dénonciation des « nouvelles formes d'oppression » imputées au capitalisme occidental désormais mondialisé : «injustice sociale, domination post-coloniale et iniquité ethno-confessionnelle ou ethno-raciale » (p. 49). Ces dernières pages reprennent également les concepts à mobiliser pour comprendre la radicalisation islamique : « frustration relative », « politicile » (ou « ostracisme politique des habitants de quartiers populaires»), «habitus» (p. 176).
Sustainable consumption behavior, namely making decisions that ensure the environment will not be damaged by SDG's goal 12. This research explores the relationship between respondent characteristics ...and sustainable consumption behavior and the influence of teacher socialization, parental socialization, and social media on consumption and sustainability values. This research was conducted cross-sectionally on 218 elementary school students using cluster random sampling. The data was processed using SPSS 25 and Smart-PLS 3. The results showed that sustainable consumption behavior among male students tended to be better and also tended to be better among children who had working mothers. The results of the SEM analysis showed a significant influence of parental socialization on sustainable consumption behavior. In addition, a significant positive indirect effect was found between teacher socialization, parental socialization, and social media exposure on sustainable consumption behavior through consumption values. Therefore, parents need to provide positive socialization to children regarding consumption values to encourage sustainable consumption behavior in children.
Decades of research conducted using field experiments and quasi-experiments have enabled us to accumulate causal evidence on the effectiveness of onboarding and socialization programs (SPs) across ...various contexts including employment, higher education, and military services. However, the literature is devoid of an integrated conceptual framework and a quantitative review evaluating the effect of such SPs on reducing newcomer turnover and its boundary conditions. In this study, we draw from a configurational approach to categorize strategic components of SPs, propose bundles of these components based on extant theories in the socialization literature, and examine the moderating effects of these bundles on the retention benefits of SPs. Combining 168 effect sizes from 83 field experiments, our meta-analysis reveals a significant overall effect size of OR = 1.46, suggesting that, on average, the odds of retention are 1.46 times higher for newcomers participating in a SP compared to newcomers in the control group. Our results also indicate that SPs' beneficial effects on newcomer retention are greater when they include the components of identifying effective task behaviors, encouraging proactivity, and facilitating social integration, a bundle aimed at satisfying key psychological needs identified by self-determination theory. We further demonstrate that the retention benefits associated with SP participation increase when the SPs are delivered in-person and in a staggered mode but remain intact across different sample types and study design features. We conclude by discussing how our study expands and develops theoretical understanding within the socialization literature and offers practical implications for managing newcomer retention that go beyond our current knowledge.
Public Significance Statement
Socialization programs can significantly improve newcomer retention in business organizations, educational institutions, and the military. The most effective socialization programs bundle the following components: (a) helping newcomers learn new tasks, (b) encouraging them to be proactive, and (c) assisting them with building social connections. The effectiveness of these programs is improved when delivered in-person and over multiple sessions rather than via a recorded video/brochure or in a single event.
The main goal of the process of socialization is to prepare individuals for effective participation in society, in the sense of internalizing the values and norms of the ruling community to meet ...the needs and achieve collective goals. The present article seeks to investigate the functional comparison of the normative conflicts of the educational institution with the family institution and its impact on students’ socialization. The theoretical framework of research is based on functionalism theories and the dissonance theory of social institutions. This survey research was carried out using a questionnaire. The statistical population of the study was comprised of all 7th grade students in Karaj and the drawn sample (N=379) was selected by random multi-stage sampling method. The findings indicate that consensus on the values and norms of the family and school affects students' socialization, and vice versa. Contradictions in the values and norms of the family and school also impact the socialization of children. More specifically, families have more emphasis on cultural and moral values and norms, whereas schools emphasize religious values and norms more. The results of regression analysis show that the consensus as well as the contradiction in values and norms could account for 69 percent of the variance in the dependent variable, i.e., socialization.
This special section situates White racial socialization (WRS) in its rightful place—in the context of White supremacy. The first article offers a conceptual framework to guide research on White ...adolescents’ racial identity development in this context. The second employs a critical ethnographic approach to explore White racial identity development among incarcerated White adolescents. Additional studies use qualitative, observational, and mixed methods to understand WRS practices in White families. The final article presents a conceptual model of digital WRS. Authors provide recommendations for future research, such as engaging in critical researcher self‐reflexivity and focusing on content of racial socialization messages. Two commentaries highlight cross‐cutting themes and urge developmental scientists to view this special section as a call to action.
Though there is substantial research on racial socialization in families of color, there is less on such socialization in white families. To investigate racial socialization in white families, the ...current study analyzed mixed‐methods data from 46 mother‐adolescent dyads. Though white parents and their adolescent children largely claimed to not talk about race, they in fact communicated about and around race through various strategies that in effect, maintained white privilege and failed to challenge systems of racial oppression. Very few families in our sample discussed racial discrimination or white privilege, and fewer rooted both at the systems level. Our results highlight situations that prompt conversations about race as well as the ways white families talk about and around race and white privilege.
The article presents the results of a genre-thematic analysis of 1129 texts recognized as the most popular in 2019 on the platform Ficbook.net. It was found that young people of generation Z - the ...authors of these works (prose, poetry, journalism), were broadcasting existential anxiety and depression, tell stories which content is mainly related to violence and sex. The research is innovative in connection with empirical material that has not been studied before in the context of the problems of socialization of the digital generation. The features of socialization and motivation of "digital natives" representatives, their behavior in social networks and in real life are revealed. The results obtained can be useful for specialists in media communications, as well as psychologists, sociologists and teachers.
Are contemporary higher-status tastes inclusive, exclusive, or both? Recent work suggests that the answer likely is both. And yet, little is known concerning how configurations of such tastes are ...learned, upheld, and expressed without contradiction. We resolve this puzzle by showing the affordances of different levels of culture (i.e., genres and objects) in the expression of tastes. We rely on original survey data to show that people of higher status taste differently at different levels of culture: more inclusively for genres and more exclusively for objects. Inclusivity at the level of genres is fostered through familial socialization, and exclusivity at the level of objects is fostered through formal schooling. Individuals' taste configurations are mirrored in and presumably reinforce their adult social-structural positions. The results have important implications for understanding the subtle maintenance of status in an increasingly diverse and putatively meritocratic society.

This study aims to explore the impact of Internet use on the mental health of older adults and its pathway mechanisms and to provide a theoretical basis and practical guidance for improving the ...mental health of older adults and better realizing active aging. Using cross-sectional data from the 2020 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey, 6722 older adults over 60 were finally included. We conducted descriptive and correlation analyses of the data; we analyzed the correlation of Internet use on the depression level and cognitive ability of older adults using seemingly unrelated regression; we further explored the mediating role of socialization frequency in the relationship between Internet use and the depression level and cognitive ability of older adults and its differences through mediation analysis. The results showed that the mean age of older adults in this study was (68.52 ± 5.97), the mean Internet use score was (1.12 ± 1.63), the mean depression score was (8.44 ± 6.31), and the mean cognitive score was (12.17 ± 3.27). Internet use had a positive impact on the mental health of older adults, including lowering depression (β = −0.275, P < 0.05) and improving cognition (β = 0.300, P < 0.05). Socialization frequency mediated the relationship between Internet use and depression/cognitive ability (95 % CI = −0.034 to −0.008, 95 % CI = 0.007–0.022). Therefore, it is essential to encourage older adults to use the Internet, actively integrate into the digital society, promote wise aging, share the fruits of technological development, and utilize the Internet to maintain the mental health of older adults.
