Physical activity levels and sleep quality are two crucial aspects that can significantly influence overall health. Research has established a significant relationship between these two aspects. A ...group of 300 high school students (120 boys and 180 girls) enrolled in schools in the province of Meknes during 2021 was randomly selected. A validated self-report questionnaire was used to assess the intensity of physical activity and sleep duration among participants. This study revealed a positive correlation between the intensity of physical activity and sleep duration. An intense physical activity level was significantly positively associated with sleep duration. This study revealed a positive correlation between physical activity levels and sleep duration. These findings suggest that increasing physical activity may improve sleep quality. However, it is important to consider other factors to enhance overall sleep quality.
Using data from a survey of Irish adults, this study analyses sport participation from the perspective of four different sporting contexts, organised training, organised competition, participating ...with friends and family and individual activities. The results reinforce the belief that different profiles of sports participants exist. Volunteers, club members and spectators at events are all more likely to be involved in organised sporting activities. City dwellers, highly educated individuals and individuals with disabilities are more likely to spend time in a sporting activity on their own. Gender and lifecycle variables are also important in determining the type of sport activity an individual undertakes. Income, whilst being a barrier to overall sport participation, does not surprisingly influence the choice of sporting context. A clear implication is that the funding and development of policies toward increased sports participation rates need to be designed in such a way to appeal to different sporting preferences.
Physical activity is central to health, beginning in childhood and adolescence, and regular monitoring provides important information for strategic decisions on promoting physical activity in ...Germany.
The current survey cycle of the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) study gives an insight into the prevalence of the indicators daily recommended physical activity, high and low physical activity, and sporting activity among students aged between 11 and 15 for 2022. In addition, the data is compared to the survey cycles of the 2009/10, 2013/14, and 2017/18 school years and analysed over time.
The results of the current survey cycle show that 10.8 % of girls, 20.9 % of boys, and 12.4 % of gender diverse adolescents fulfil the daily physical activity recommendation. There are also major gender-specific differences for the other indicators. The group of gender diverse adolescents needs to be analysed further. The changes over time between 2009/10 and 2022 are relatively small. While girls' physical activity habits decreased slightly for the various indicators between 2009/10 and 2022, boys' prevalence remained relatively stable over the same period.
Overall, in part due to the effects of the various COVID-19 lockdowns, the need for effective and population-based measures to promote physical activity in childhood and adolescence remains high.
Introduction: During Ramadan, Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset. In this period, meals become exclusively nocturnal, and the traditional dishes served are often rich in ...fats and carbohydrates. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of Ramadan fasting on the sports activities, diet, and anthropometry of the basketball players of the clubs of eastern Algeria. Methods: This transversal study was conducted on 32 basketball players. Data were collected on the sports activities, diet (24-hour food recall, frequency of usual food consumption), and length of sleep using questionnaires. In addition, anthropometric measurements were performed. Results: The basketball players trained more frequently during normal periods compared to Ramadan (4.3±0.4 vs. 2.0±0.1 day/week; p <0.001) and hydrated in the evening during Ramadan (2.7±0.7 liters/day). The contribution of carbohydrates exceeded the recommendations. A significant difference was observed in the frequency of food consumption between normal periods and Ramadan for the fruits and vegetables group (p <0.001), fatty and sweet products (p <0.001), and beverage group (p <0.01). However, no significant difference was observed in the length of sleep between the two periods (P=0.621), and the body components did not change (weight, body mass index, brachial muscle circumference, and total muscle mass). Conclusion: According to the results, Ramadan fasting had no significant effects on the diet, sports activities, and anthropometry of the basketball players.
The current study aims to highlight the efficiency of combining kinesiotherapy and aerobic gymnastics means in the rehabilitation of ankle fractures, in case of a soccer player. The purpose of this ...paper was to regain joint mobility, to increase muscle strength and to reintegrate the athlete in soccer-specific practices. The following tests were applied to the subject: joint assessment, muscle testing and evaluation of gait spatial-temporal variables. In the first rehabilitation stage (the first four months) the kinesiotherapy-specific means were applied, and then, for a month, an aerobic gymnastics program was used. After applying the rehabilitation program, we found that the movement degrees in ankle joint increased significantly, as follows: in dorsal flexion from 6º initially, to 19º finally and in plantar flexion from 12º initially, to 28º finally. In addition, muscle strength had a favourable evolution, increasing from minimal values of 2 and 2.5, respectively, at the initial evaluation, to 3.5, 4.5 and 5 at the final one. Concerning the evolution of stride rate, it is worth noting an increase of 43 steps/minute, a progress of 32 cm in step length and an improvement of movement speed. Hence, we highlight the idea that the kinesiotherapy means led to the elimination of motor deficit and to regaining gait, and those specific to aerobic gymnastics led to an increase in sustained exercise capacity and an improvement of joint stability and muscle strength.
Patellar dislocation is common in young and active patients. The purpose of this study was to determine sporting activity following the medial reefing of patellar dislocation.
One hundred forty-four ...patients with objective patellar dislocation were treated between 2004 and 2013. Three groups were analyzed retrospectively with a minimum follow-up of 24 months: (1) primary dislocation that was treated with medial reefing without a recurrent dislocation until the day of follow-up (n = 74), (2) primary dislocation that was initially treated with medial reefing but with a recurrent dislocation until the day of follow-up (n = 44), and (3) medial reefing after failed conservative treatment (n = 26). Sporting activity was assessed using a widely-used sporting activity questionnaire and the Tegner score prior to the injury and at the follow-up (58.7 ± 22.6 months after the injury). Clinical outcomes were assessed using IKDC and Kujala score.
The Kujala score was 94.7 ± 9.3 for Group 1, 84.1 ± 16.6 for Group 2 and 93.4 ± 9.7 for Group 3. IKDC at the time of follow-up was 97.2 ± 9.3 for Group 1, 86.1 ± 14.6 for Group 2 and 95.1 ± 11.1 for Group 3. 91.9% of Group 1 and 92.3% of Group 3 were active in sports prior to their injuries and at the time of the follow-up. In Group 2, sporting activity reduced from 81.8 to 75.0%. In all groups, a shift from high performance to recreational sports was found.
Despite good clinical results, sporting activity was reduced following patellar dislocation treated with medial reefing. Also, a shift from engagement in high- to low-impact sports among the participants was noted.
ABSTRACT Introduction: High-performance training should focus on motor capability determinants in competition to make physical preparation effective. Objective: To analyze and draw up an elite model ...based on competitive activity, to guide the theory and practice of female rowers, using data on the 42 finalists of the 2010-2018 world championships. Methods: Forty-two rowers from 2010-2018 world championships participated in the study, final A, women's single scull without weight restrictions. The statistical comparison was performed and differences between 500 meter splits analyzed for each variable were discussed. Results: Strong correlation was observed between time (r=-0.99, p<0.01), power (r=0.99, p<0.01), technical level (r=0.99, p<0.01) and speed. In the competitive model, the relationship between speed at 2000 meters and time (r=-0.96, p<0.01), speed (r=0.94, p<0.01) and power (r=0.96, p<0.01) showed a strong correlation with speed in the splits of the third 500 meters of the race. In terms of stroke rate (r=-0.56, p<0.01) and stroke length (r=0.54, p<0.01), the strongest correlation occurs at the start, in the first 100 meters of competition. Conclusion: Having performed these analyses, it is possible to confirm the need to investigate competitive activity in order to supplement the rower's fitness preparation system. This study aims to explore the potential psychological and cognitive advantages for older individuals engaged in hard martial arts (HMA), through a comprehensive scoping review of literature up to ...2023. Specifically, it examines the extent of changes in cognition, mental state, and quality of life among elderly participants of HMA. Inclusion criteria were studies conducted on healthy persons who were over 50 years of age. Only papers published in the English language were included. The search was undertaken in electronic databases and sources of grey literature. Thirteen papers with a total of 514 participants met the inclusion criteria. Improved cognition and decreased levels of anxiety and depression were emerging themes. Together, these factors contributed to the quality of life of participants. HMA was found to benefit cognitive abilities and psychological well-being, increasing quality of life more than traditional exercise alone. Findings suggested duration of training influenced change more than frequency. The limited number of studies exploring the effects of HMA on mental wellness and cognitive ability in older adults underscores the need for further research. The findings of this review suggest cognitive and quality of life improvements and reduced depression and anxiety in individuals engaging in HMA. This review serves as a foundation for soundly designed future research.
