The article is devoted to one of the recent problems of terminography, which studies terminological dictionaries, deals with the development of principles and bases how to comply terminological ...lexicons of different types, concerns with their classification, as well as arrangement and unification of national terminology.
The problem of classification of terminographic editions is of great importance: it constantly attracts meticulous attention of Ukrainian and foreign linguists, however nowadays there is no any unified set of features for distinguishing dictionaries.
Is was specified that modern terminological lexicography requires a classified description of terminological dictionaries of different types. Linguists create typologies, classifications, as well as specific and typological classifications of dictionaries. Schematically, the hierarchy of subordination of special editions can be displayed as it follows: linguistic dictionaries (type) → system dictionaries (subtype) → professional dictionaries (class) → terminological dictionaries (kind) → … (variable kinds). The meaning of the term „typology” is broader than the essence of the concept „classification”. Correspondingly, it is proposed to use the term classification of terminological dictionaries to denote an arranged description of terminographic editions with their division into types, subtypes, classes, and subclasses according to common features and purpose.
It is found out that examined reliable typologies and classifications of terminological dictionaries are structured as taxonomic systems based on pragmatic features. They determine the special purpose of dictionaries, divide them according to structural, functional and other features, and establish characteristic features of mega-, macro-, and microstructure of editions. The researched typologies and classifications are not complete, as they focus only on available terminological dictionaries. The necessity of terminological edition classification was proved; it should be noted that possible perspective of variable kinds of special editions for the needs of time and science should be taked into the account, in particular, the “dictionary of the future” – a terminological dictionary of a combined type.
This article elucidates a problem of restoring ideologically removed terminological units to modern technical terminology. Russian-Ukrainian dictionary of scientific terminology. Mathematics. ...Physics. Earth and Space Sciences , published in Kyiv in 1998, Defining Russian-Ukrainian-English Dictionary of Energy edited by A. Rudnik, published in Kharkiv in 1999 and Russian-Ukrainian Dictionary of Engineering Technologies from the terminographic series Word World, published in Lviv in 2013 were analyzed. Repressed terms have been found in all analyzed lexicographic works, prepared and published by various Ukrainian schools. Having analyzed the term material of these terminological works, it has been noted that all the authors of mentioned dictionaries reasonably continue to revive the authentic Ukrainian terms. The purpose of the article is to identify tendencies of standardization of Ukrainian technical terminology, common for domestic terminological schools, on the basis of the analysis of repressed terms recorded in modern lexicographical works. In the dictionary article they clearly put terms on the first place, that are recommended by the permanent scientific terminological seminar of the Technical Committee for Standardization of Scientific and Technical Terminology of Derzhspozhyvstandart and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, as well as the requirements of the State Standard. It was discovered that lexicographers of Lviv Polytechnic consistently continue the traditions of Ukrainian terminologists of the 1920s, who were employees of the Institute of Scientific Language of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, and use methods of describing terminological material typical for the golden decade Ukrainian terminology. Descriptive-analytical and comparative methods are applied in the study, according to which the observation of the analyzed lexicographic material is generalized, in particular, the terms that were removed from the Ukrainian technical terminology in the 30s of the twentieth century by terminological bulletins are described. The structural method contributes to the description of word-forming affixes of the studied terms. Analytical and synthetic elaboration of terminographic sources is used to shed light on the historiography of this issue. Based on the analytical-synthetic elaboration of lexicographic works of three domestic terminological schools, the article reveals the following common tendencies of standardization of Ukrainian technical terminology: return to the terminology of unfairly forgotten or forcibly removed nominations; creation of new terms according to Ukrainian word-forming models, restoration of etymological writing and sounding of technical terms; arranging scientific and technical dictionaries by teams of authors specialists in various technical fields and terminographs; the common position of domestic terminological schools is to focus on the native language soil, taking into account the achievements of previous generations.
For a long time, terminology as a linguistic field has been the subject of research by scholars, both in the context of the general problematic of the Albanian language and in regards to the ...problematic that the terminology itself encompasses. Albanian technical terminology is related to international terminological systems, as well as new arrivals conditioned by the opening of Albania and Kosovo and their path to integration into international organizations, such as NATO, EU, etc. It is also related to globalization and the powerful impact of English. The history of development motivates the current state of linguistic and technical terminology in close connection with the general lexicon of the Albanian language, with units that are specialized as standardized terms in various fields of technical-technological knowledge. This paper deals with an overview of the beginnings and developments of Albanian linguistic terminology and technical terminology in the Albanian language.
The Dictionary of Legal Terminology' shows the conceptual system of modern Slovenian law. In more than 10,000 dictionary entries, we present the terminology of contemporary Slovenian legal science, ...legal practice and legislation after 1991. The dictionary is primarily intended for legal experts, who practice various professions (including judges, lawyers, notaries, prosecutors as well as heads of HR and legal departments in companies). It is also intended for students of law and related sciences, in order to familiarize them with the conceptual system of Slovenian law in a professionally relevant manner. In order to use the dictionary efficiently at least a basic knowledge of law is required. This does not mean that journalists, translators, proof-readers and others who encounter legal terminology cannot use it. However, it should be borne in mind that definitions contained in a terminological dictionary are very concise and sufficiently informative only for an expert who is familiar with the conceptual system of a specific field of study, while other users are provided with a suitable starting point so they can find additional information if necessary.
This paper describes the substantiation and methodology for creating a network of semantically related terms for indexing scientific data on the basis of the analysis of definitions in the system of ...terminological dictionaries in all fields of science and technology. The processing of definitions in the automated and intelligent modes is provided. The links that correspond to the relationships of concepts in informationretrieval thesauri are established between terms.
Nowadays the crucial issues concerning standardization, unification, normalization, creation of terminological dictionaries which could satisfy completely the needs of experts working in various ...areas of science or technology are very important. The development of ways of term formation and terminology contributes to the active participation of experts in solving actual issues of modern science and technology, thereby increasing their informational awareness.
Monography ('Antonymy in Standard Slovenian on the Example of Terminological Dictionaries') deals with antonymy in Slovenian dictionaries, especially in terminological, with linguistic theories about ...antonyms, lexicographical theories about the presentation of antomyms in general language and terminological dictionaries, with types of antonymes in dictionaries of diferent sciences, most frequent mistakes. The presentation of antonyms in Slovenian dictionaries has a long tradition, starting already in the so-called non-standard dictionaries pertaining to the language works of Slovenian Protestants and continuing with Cigale’s Znanstvena terminologija s posebnim ozirom na srednja učilišča (Scientific Terminology with Special Focus on Secondary Schools, 1880), where antonyms were marked for the first time in the form of notes opp. (opponitur).
This paper describes developments in Welsh-language terminology within the education system in Wales. Following an outline of historical terminology work, it concentrates on the consolidation of ...terminology standardization at the Language Technologies Unit, Bangor University, with particular reference to two projects, one concerned with terminology for school-age and further education, the second concerned with higher education. The developments described include the adoption of international standards in terminology standardization and their incorporation in an online terminology standardization environment and dissemination platform that enable access to the centralized terminological dictionaries via a number of sophisticated websites, portals and mobile apps featuring rich dictionary entries. Some of the issues in managing large term collections are explored, and usage statistics are presented for the resources described.
