The applications of a standardized Chinese medicine (CM) terminology are ultimately the translation and publication of literature, education, as well as scholarly and legal communication. Over the ...past 20-30 years the amount of published CM literature, including clinical and experimental research, has increased exponentially. In addition, the numbers of professionally trained Western CM scholars and clinicians have been continuously rising, and they are now forming a considerable academic force that should be taken seriously. Because of the continuous advancements of CM abroad, there is a strong demand for the application of a "common official language" to facilitate this progress and the future developments in the field. A standard to be applied within China is also a necessary work needed for the uniform transmission of the indigenous medical system abroad.
Arabic controlled vocabularies do not differ from all other controlled vocabularies as far as basic features are concerned, however they do bear a number of shortcomings, which have limited their ...effectiveness dissemination. These include the lack of adaptations to Arab-specific applications, and the failure of terms to connote the content of subject areas easily and consistently. Besides, differences and variability in terminology and syntax cause problems in cross-domain or cross-system interoperability. In addition, Existing software is unequipped to service Arabic-speaking libraries in such a way that allows them to be technologically comparable with modern libraries around the world, thus limiting their integration into the international library community. This technological shortcoming also limits the ease by which they are able to make knowledge resources attainable to researchers and other library users. This article proposes a framework for a monolingual web-based terminology management system that operates in Arabic and supports the use of Arabic controlled vocabularies. This article is based on ISO 26162:2012 Systems to manage terminology, knowledge and content - Design, implementation and maintenance of terminology management systems.

This paper discusses the challenges and benefits of using CAT tools to ensure standardized terminology use in translations in a tertiary education institution. Based on specific institutional needs, a server-based collaboration platform was installed, followed by the collection and assessment of institutional texts translated by various units of the university. After their alignment/import into a server-based translation memory, the core terms used in these texts were then imported into a server-based term base. Implications are discussed and suggestions are made.

One of the many implications of the process of language democratization which started post-1994 in South Africa is the empowerment of the previously marginalized South African Bantu languages to ...become languages of higher functions, i.e. languages of learning and teaching, and also of scientific discourse. This in turn implies the development, consolidation and especially standardization of terminology for each of these languages, and the compilation of LSP dictionaries. This article describes the terminological processing of a technical source text prior to translation, which formed part of the compilation of a Quadrilingual Explanatory Dictionary of Chemistry. It reports on the model of terminology management that was utilized and explores strategies for the internal standardization of terms in the absence of readily available, standardized chemistry terminology.
