The PL-Grid project is constructing a grid computing infrastructure supporting mature middleware suites such as gLite and UNICORE, as well as new ones like QosCosGrid. It also delivers various ...services, e.g. graphical tools and databases. Users need to be able to access all services and resources in a uniform way, if possible – with a single set of credentials. PL-Grid integrates the middleware and services accessible to users by delivering a coherent platform upon which to interact with the services. The required integration of procedures and tools is described in this chapter. The resulting platform provides the scientists conducting research with a wide variety of powerful tools and resources, enabling them to maximize their scientific potential.
Business Process Management Systems (BPMS) provide support for the business process (BPs) lifecycle, from modeling to executing and evaluating BPs. Key elements provided within a BPMS are a process ...engine where BP models are executed and a web portal for user's interaction providing means to manage a work list, taking and completing tasks, among other functionalities. Most BPMS portals provide a set of core features for users to manage their work lists, as well as service-oriented access to their process engine, which is tightly coupled. In this context it seems possible to define a generic BPMS user portal which can be integrated (loosely coupled) with potentially any process engine for the execution of business processes. In this paper we define such generic BPMS user portal based on a unified data model and a generic process engine API. We also show the feasibility of these ideas through the development of a prototype.
Portal Web Perpustakaan Nasional Republik Indonesia(PNRI) or Indonesian National Library Web Portal is one of the best resources that support education in Indonesia. With the large collection of ...librarians, PNRI can reach millions of librarian with various education background and area. To ensure its sustainability, we need to conduct research to know how good is the usability this web portal to the remote user. One of the way is using web usability testing. By using this test, PNRI will get the information about what is needed to be fixed and for the next step it can be used as recommendation in redesigning of the portal. PNRI web portal test will be held using remote usability test method. The research is conducted by combining inquiry with formal usability test, like giving a task to the participant. The sampling method used is random sampling by using 32 participant. Data gathering technique used is using online questionnaire. The research result shows that: (1) most of the participant get difficulties in finding information about service schedule; (2) most of the participant dissatisfied in interface design and arrangement in the homepage of PNRI portal. This research is intended as the starting research. It needs the next research to deepen and complete the information and research findings, especially about portal efficiency.
EnMAP (Environmental Mapping and Analysis Program, www.enmap.org) is a German, Earth observing, imaging spectroscopy, spaceborne mission planned for launch in 2020. The data products will cover the ...spectral range from 420 nm to 2450 nm with a spectral sampling distance between 5 and 12 nm with an expected signal-to-noise-ratio of 400:1 in the visible near-infrared and 180:1 in the shortwave infrared parts of the electro-magnetic spectrum. The resulting images will cover an area of 30 km in the across- track direction with a ground sampling distance of 30 m. The across-track tilt-capability of 30° enables revisit times of less than four days. The resulting data products will be freely available to the scientific user community for measuring, deriving, and analyzing diagnostic parameters, which describe vital processes on the Earth's surface comprising agriculture, forestry, soil and geological environments, as well as coastal zones and inland waters. This work concentrates on the description of activities performed and facilities involved for the preparation of these products. It starts out by the description of the User Portals for observation requests and acquisition planning, touches the aspects of creating the time-lines, the commanding and controlling of the satellite, the downlink of the telemetry and payload data, the design of the processing chain and the archiving of data plus a set of activities flanking the above for the provision of high-quality data products.
Business Process Management System (BPMS) integrates several software modules to support the business process (BP) lifecycle. A process modeler, process engine, a web portal for interaction with ...users, and a REST/SOAP API which exposes operations from the engine are key ones. In previous works we have evaluated several BPMS identifying similarities in terms of the concepts they manage in their user portals and the APIs they expose, and how the user portals became highly coupled to the underlying process engine through the provided API. We proposed a generic user portal that makes invocations to a generic API decoupling the portal from the specific process engine it invokes, which can be exchanged through the generic API invocation to different process engines. In this paper we present an extension of this work by adding concepts to the generic API and data model, a comparative analysis between BPMS, as well as the implementation of adapters for three different engines to show its capabilities.

This paper presents the establishment of cluster computing lab at a minority serving institution that aims to provide computing resources to support undergraduate student research. We will firstly a ...project for building, configuring, and maintaining the cluster in the lab. The computing resources of the cluster are managed by a job distribution environment that allows the users to upload, compile, and run their jobs. The job distribution software distributes the submitted jobs to the computing nodes of the cluster. Load balancing issues are addressed. Next, we present student research activities performed on the cluster. We will present two related projects that aim to implement the Chemical Reaction Models (CRM) on the cluster using TSpace, and implement CRM on a GPU machine. Participating students were actively involved in presentation and publication of research results.
