    Numerous experimental and epidemiological studies have revealed the relationship between an elevated blood cholesterol value and development of atherosclerosis. In the first instance, the ... recommendation would be to avoid the weight gain readily contributed to dietary fat and cholesterol. The more restricted feeding should definitely reduce intake of saturated fat to < 10% energy and cholesterol < 200 mgld. The bulk of dietary energy should derive from cereal grains and vegetables with a generous supply of fruit as snack-food. We would recommend also regular body exercise and consumation of averrage amount of antioxidants, such as vitamin E and vitamin C to protect vulnerable lipoproteins from peroxidation. It is necessary to avoid trans fatty acids, and consume the visible fat only in the form of salad dressing oils. Fat spreads, cheeses and milk should be avoided.
