    When tunneling in soft ground, umbrella arch is often being used to improve the stability and safety conditions around tunnel face. The paper presents the results of parametric study in which the ... influence of different parameters on the behavior of umbrella arch was analyzed. The numerical analyses were done by using Plaxis 3D software. The study is part of a wider research with the aim to improve existing umbrella arch design methods; therefore the emphasis was on the pipe element properties such as pipe stiffness. Moreover the ground and shotcrete properties were also varied, which included the application of advanced concrete material model to model the primary lining of the tunnel. The results of numerical analyses were compared to actual displacement measurements taken ahead of tunnel face by horizontal inclinometer. The effects of the studied parameters on the umbrella arch displacements and inner forces are presented and discussed.
