  • Laparoskopija v urologiji - sedanje stanje in bodoči razvoj = Laparoscopy in urology today and in future
    Vodopija, Nado
Background. Although many years have passed since first reports on laparoscopic operative technique had been published, it is in the last 20 years that many laparoscopic techniques have been ... introduced to all fields of surgery. The first laparoscopic cholecystectomy in 1987 initiated the explosion of new laparoscopic methods. In surgery this development was very rapid due to large number of procedures that were suitable for laparoscopic technique; in urology number of procedures that can be performed laparoscopically is relatively limited. Consequently the development of laparoscopic techniques in urology was much slower; it is for this reason thatlaparoscopic procedures are performed only in limited number of urology departments (2 in Slovenia). In urology rapid development followed after the year 1990 (laparoscopic nephrectomy); in the last 10 years many procedures areperformed using laparoscopic technique also in urology. In this presentation the most common laparoscopic procedures in urology are outlined, as well as future trends of laparoscopy in urology and our experience and results, based on 269 laparoscopic procedures performed in the past 8 years. We have learned adequate operative technique performing many laparoscopic procedures in abdominal surgery (mostly lap. cholecystectomy). As a result of trained operative technique, an average operative time in laparoscopic procedure is short and comparable to open procedures and the complication arises rarely.
