  • Victims' care : a handbook
    The Attention for Victims of Crimes (AViCri) project is part of the European Daphne II Programme, 2004-2008. The AViCri project specifically aims the creation and drafting of educational packages ... addressed to the officers of the three bodies of the police force that in Italy pledge public security (Police, Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza). As one of the rights accorded to victims, the European Council (with the framework Decision of March 15th 2001) has established their need for contact with workers who are trained to assess the victim's particular situation, which is characterized by specific requisites, needs and precautions. The organization heading the project was the Faculty of Psychology 2, "Sapienza" University of Rome, represented by the Project Leader Prof. Anna Maria Giannini. Partners in Italy: Ministry of the Interior, Department of Public Security, Central Direction of Criminal Investigation (as well as with an Inter-Force Group made of State Police, Carabinieri Corps and Guardia di Finanza); Regione Lazio- Regional Directorate of Social Services; Italian Inter-University Centre for the Study and Research on the Origins and Development of Pro-social and Anti-Social Motivations (CIRMPA); and two NGOs "Differenza Donna" and "Telefono Rosa". Partners in Europe: Police Headquarters Middlemoor, Exeter, Devon (United Kingdom); Ministry of Home Affairs and Sport of Lower Saxony, Polizeidirection Hannover, Polizeikommissariat Langenhagen Hannover (Germany); London Metropolitan Police - Scotland Yard (United Kingdom). The main target of the AViCri Project has been to create a training package both versatile enough to be used among Police Forces all over in Europe and sufficiently specific to tackle a subject such as that of the victims of crimes. This handbook summarizes theory and practice, aims to stimulate personal skills and awareness, and put forward qualified scientific knowledge and professionalising work procedures.
