This paper presents results of the thermo-economic assessment and the analysis of the primary energy factor based on the field test results of the residential air-to-water heat pump. The heat pump ... experimental setup consisted of the SCADA system, which was connected with the heat meter, electricity meter, humidity and temperature sensors, the heat pump control system and the computer. Based on the experimental data, the four-year-average seasonal performance factor (SPF) of 2.76 has been determined for the period from 2011/2012 to 2014/2015. This information was applied in a thermo-economic assessment and primary energy factor (PEF) analysis in order to compare 11 different heating system with the heat pump under consideration. The results reveal that the considered heat pump represents the second most thermo-economically efficient system after the district heating (DH). The average annual final costs (AAFC) and average final costs for heat production (AFCHP) in case of the heat pump under consideration were 1615 EUR/a and 90 EUR/MWh, respectively, compared to the AAFC and AFCHP values of the district heating with the 1374 EUR/a and 77 EUR/MWH, respectively. Based on the results of the PEF analysis, the heating system with the heat pump under investigation (PEF = 0.95) can be characterized as the second most efficient system after the district heating (PEF = 0.80).
