  • Preživetje otrok in mladostnikov z nehodgkinovim limfomom v Sloveniji v obdobju 1990-1999 = Survival of children and adolescents with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in Slovenia from 1990-1999

    In the last 15 years there has been a remarkable improvement in the treatment of children and adolescents with Non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHL). Nowadays, according to multicentre studies, more than 90% ... of patients can be cured. The purpose of our retrospective study was to evaluate the outcome of 49 children and adolescents with NHL treated in the Unit for oncology and haematology at the University Children's Hospital in Ljubljana from 1990 - 1999. The overall 10-year survival for the whole group of patients was 77.3%. Overall survival rates for B-cell and Burkett NHL were 88% and 87% respectively, for patients with T- cell NHL 67%. There was a 100% survival rate in localized disease (stage I and II). Most of the deaths were due to disease relapse (8 / 11 patients), while 3 patients died from treatment-related complications. The results for our patients with NHL are satisfactory, but not excellent, compared to large multicentre studies around the world.
