  • Life cycle assessment of electricity distributed in slovenian electricity market [Elektronski vir]
    Stropnik, Rok ...
Sustainable development in the energy sector, focusing on electricity generation can be achieved through the use of new technologies for electricity generation from different primary energy sources, ... such as renewable energy sources (RES), to reduce environmental impacts. To evaluate electricity generation impacts on environment in electricity generation life cycle, the life cycle assessment (LCA) method was used. In this paper the life cycle assessment of 1kWh electricity generated for different electricity providers (EP) on Slovenian electricity market. The scope of the study was cradle to gate (electricity at the consumer). Electricity providers have different shares of RES, fossil and nuclear electricity generation that results in different environmental impacts. Life cycle assessment methodology was used to set up numerical models in Gabi TM software. In life cycle impact assessment stage CML 2001 methodology was used with available global, regional and local environmental indicators. This study show that primary energy sources plays an important role for electricity generation impacts on environment. Results show that GEN-I EP has the best electricity generation source mix according to regional and local environmental impact indicators but the worst for global indicators.
