  • Limfociti T uravnavajo latentnost tumorjev = T-cell immunity controlling tumor dormancy
    Schirrmacher, Volker, 1943-
We describe experimental situations in which T cell mediated anti-tumor immuneresponses lead to tumor dormancy. In tumor dormancy there was a long-lasting balance between tumor cell proliferation and ... active control by immune CD8 T cells. Bone marrow appeared to be an especially interesting organfor tumor dormancy as well as for memory T cells. In many cancer patientswe detected in bone marrow an enrichment of anti-tumor memory T cells suggesting spontaneous immune recognition. Upon appropriate stimulation, memory T cells from the bone marrow of cancer patients could be activated. Transfer of such cells into human cancer bearing mice caused tumor regression.Memory T cells from cancer patients could also be activated via active specific immunotherapy with patient derived whole cell vaccine modifiedby infection with Newcastle Disease Virus. In several phase II clinical studies this post-operative immunotherapy was capable of improving long-term survival.
