  • University as urban entity and city as university experience
    Zupančič-Strojan, Tadeja
In making important, active, innovative universities, appointed conditions (terms) are necessary. University community is not able to form itself without its own space. But if that space is not ... recognizable, university identification is impossbile. Outstanding of university spatial complexes could be considered according to their environment, the relationship to it (in periodical point of view) and internal relations of university space. Analysing, classification and planning criteria (rulers) could be joint into four groups of questions: about relations of lacation, programme, material and other (semantic...) relations between university and town. Placement should enable university growth for their mutual positive influence. Openness deriving from place and time leads into hierarchal rich wholeness of offer and choice. Unity of diversity enbles recognizable variety. But challenge of space encourages human crativeness. Spatial details also contribute to quality and express fast changing and unpredictable conditions of space and time. Definition of university as a space of contradictions (according to affinities and nature of communications) leads to the orientation to integrity, considering various needs of activites and environmental offers and demands. Planning is, then, a coordination, of balance of growth, but basic criteria are: coherence, openness of interwoven university and its living environment as a wholeness of space, time and society.
