  • The corrosion behaviour of electrode surfaces enriched with silicon in Si-bearing cast steel
Vehovar, Leopold ; Godec, Boštjan, 1961-
Extensive investigations have been focussed on highly alloyed cast steels with 4% of silicon and low content of carbon, placing special emphasis on the ▫$\alpha/\gamma$▫-phase ratio. The results have ... shown that, of four investigated cast steels, the fully austentic FeCr26Ni30Si4 cast steel provides a high resistance to corrosion in strongly oxidizing media. The high resistance to corrosion is due to the formation of a thin silicon barier, which tends to retard the cathodic reaction on the electrode surface. The main reason for this behaviour is cathodic activation overpotential, which predominates over the anodic overpotential.
