  • Energy and mass transformations of sewage sludge and bark during composting
Mihelič, Rok ; Kadunc, Vinko ; Lobnik, Franc, 1942-
A self-heating bioreactor of 810 l working volume was constructed and tested by studying thermodynamic changes which occur during composting. The reactor volume is sufficient to give enough compost ... for pot or filed agricultural experiments what is an advantage in comparison to small laboratory reactors. Mixture of sewage sludge and hardwood bark was used for thermodynamic balance assessment. Despite large working volume and wall insulation conductive heat loss was sisgnificant and therfore experimental results could not be used for direct modeling of technical equipment for highly controlled industrial composting facilities. Because of that further improvements of our composting model are proposed.
