  • Post-accession opportunities for rural development in Bulgaria
    Kuhar G., Antoaneta ; Kuhar, Aleš, 1974-
The aim of the paper is to estimate linkages between various sectors in the Bulgarian economy. This is done by constructing the national Input-Output (I-O) table. As a result, teh key sectors in ... terms of creating output, income and enployment opportunities are defined. This could be of a great importance for designing various scenarios for development and assessment of the likely economic performance of the country in the changed economic and policy environment after the accession to the EU. The research brings some interesting results of the magnitude and the relative importance of the sectors within the national economy. The results suggest that the agricultural sector has a considerably high potential to generate output and to create employment within the economy. The confirms the agricultural profile of the Bulgarian rural areas. However, this is contrary to to sector's potential to generate income. It is mainly due to the low wages and seasonal character of the agricultural activities. On the other side, it is obvious that the key sector in terms of creating income is the industry. In further research work the computed national I-O multipliers can be used for evaluation of exogenous shocks to the Bulgarian economy.
