  • The quality of graphic art paper : the influence of paper permanence and durability on graphic art

    Several relevant samples, three of papers made specifically as artist's paper and four actual art works made several years prior to testing were tested for chemical, optical and, as far as possible ... for mechanical stability after accelerated ageing. The results indicated rather considerable dissimilarities and, generally, the inappropriateness of the commercially produced paper samples especially designed to be used as art supports. There is an urgent need to use permanent archival materials for the long-term preservation of graphic art on paper with its original expresiveness as intended by the artist and to avoid expensive - and doubtful - restoration treatments.
