    The aim of the study was to assess central and local influences on the microvascular reactivity at the pre-hypertensive stage of hypertension development and to determine whether the primary event in ... the hypertension development is located in microvessels or/and centrally dependent. We comparedskin microvascular reactivity of 59 normotensive subjects with a family history of hypertension with that of 46 normotensive subjects with no family history of hypertension. Skin blood flow was measured using laser-Doppler method on the index finger nailfold skin in the resting conditions, after 8-minute occlusion of digital arteries, during nitroglycerinpatch application to the measurement site, during contralateral hand cooling (with water at 15 degree C) and during upright tilting (65 degree). Finger blood pressure, pulse and ECG were monitored by a finapres device. Heart rate, systolic blood pressure and microvascular flow power spectral analyses were performed using fast Fourier transformation. Baroreflexsensitivity was estimated by the sequence method. In comparison to normotensives with no family history of hypertension normotensive subjects with a family history of hypertension showed significantly higher systolic blood pressure (p=0.011, unpaired t-test). We did not find any significant difference in the dilating capacity of microvessels between the two groups. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters)
