  • Development of a load cell for friction force measurement
    Klemenc, Jernej ...
ǂThe ǂResearch Group LAVEK from Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Ljubljana has developed a proof-stand for fatigue strength determination of aluminium components under conditions of fretting and ... plane-reverse-bending as a part of an international COPERNICUS project. Before the proof-stand was built, a FEM analysis of stress-strain state in the contact between a specimen and two clamps (which are used to impose additional compressive load to the specimen so as fretting will occur) was performed with an assumed coefficient of friction. In order to perform a numerical analysis for real operating conditions, it was necessary to measure the coefficient of friction between the specimen and the clamp during the testing. The coefficient of friction in the contact is the ratio of the normal force imposed by the clamp and the average of the friction force in the contact. Since the normal force is known, the average friction force in the contact has to be measured in order to determine the coefficient of friction. To meet this aim a special load cell for friction force measurement was designed.
