    Background. A samll part of asthmatic patients are only treatable by systemic glucocorticoids, however, such therapy could lead to serious adverse effects. The article reviews the available studies ... on severe asthma cases treated by other anti-inflammatory agents. Conclusions. After comparing the results it can be safely concluded that glucocorticoids are still superior anti-inflammatory agents suitable for a majority of the patients.
