    The article deals with the way the proverbs of three neighbouring languages - Slovene, German and Hungarian - conceptualize the complex emotion of happiness. A surprising fact is that happiness is ... conceptualized in a very similar manner in all three languages, using very similar and at times equal lexical and syntactical means. Nuanced differences can be detected on the level of connota-tions, where certain proverbs tend to carry a slightly more positive or negative connotation, or their communicative function varies (in terms of which expres-sive speech act they tend to realize: consolation, warning). The analysis is based on data compiled in the paremiological databases of the project SprichWort (http://www.sprichwort-plattform.org/sp/Sprichwort-Plattform).
