    In the case of inflammation, several models have been deviced. A sensitive, simple, reproducible and economic assay for structure-activity investigations of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs ... (NSAID's) is lacking. This has promted us to investigate the advantages and limitations of defining for that purpose the potency of NSAID's as inhibitors of histamine secretion from isolated rat peritoneal mast cells. The results of our study show that NSAID's have no effect on histamine secretion from mast cells at concentrations below 10-3M but they inhibited 48/80 induced histamine secretion. The activity of NSAID's in our experimental model is in correlation with activity of NSAID's inhibition of prostaglandin production in cultured macrophages and standard clinical dosage in man. We conclude, that our experimental model can be used as one of the methods of activity investigation for NSAID's.
