  • Distributed runoff modeling emphasizing the process space and time variability in rural catchments
    Zlate, Ionel ; Dumitrescu, Eduard
In the paper a rainfall-runoff model developed on a digital terrain model developed on a digital terrain model (DTM) is concerned. The DTM is of raster type and performed at a certain space ... resolution, derived as compromise between the catchment area range and the computer performances. Specific DTM info-layers may be easily connected with some water balance components, as the interception or infiltration processes, whereas the derived draining network is involved in the runoff process as a transition function from the source pixels to the catchment outlet. In the model, the input, state and output variables are usually area distrbuted. The runoff process is modeled as a kinematic wave. The simulation results may be presented as the outlet hydrograph, or hydrographs for some graphically selected sub-catchments, or pixel values of the water depth at each time interval as an animation picture, also emphasizing the runoff space variability over the analyzed catchment
