    Nowadays, there are many works of Italian poetry translated into Slovene, but so far there is no single list or overview about how many works of foreign literature have actually been translated into ... Slovene, how many times those works were translated, the literature of which foreign author was most translated, when, why and who translated it etc. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the translation work in the period from 1945 to 1992; this part also describes the translation policy after 1945, some important poetic translations that emerged in the fifties and the sixties are presented, and translation of Italian poetry after 1992 is briefly described. The aims of the thesis are to create an overview of translated works by means of research with the COBISS, the co-operative online bibliographic system (catalog database), and to check which publishers were the most active in the translation area; with a questionnaire, sent to the Slovenian publishers and cultural associations which issue literary magazines, translation work during the given periods was additionally analyzed.
