  • Problemi pri simultanem tolmačenju predhodno pripravljenih političnih govorov iz francoskega in slovenskega jezik [Elektronski vir] : magistrsko delo
    Erjavec, Lucija
This master's thesis deals with the simultaneous interpreting of political speeches, prepared in advance, the source language of all three speeches being French and the target language Slovenian. The ... discourse in general is defined at the beginning of the theoretical part. The communication functions according to Jakobson are presented, and those dominating the political discourse are stressed out. In conference interpreting, the meaning of spoken discourse is transferred into another language through speaking. Therefore, a special subchapter is dedicated to a spoken discourse and a great deal of attention is paid to the conditions in which the communication act takes place. These are the following: the participants, the social relations between them, the situation of the communication, the purpose and the referential framework. In the continuation, the political discourse is discussed in more detail through the presentation of its characteristics, purpose and the possible background of its origin. The last chapter of the theoretical part deals with Charaudeau's discourse strategies, namely the strategies of legitimity, credibility and conquest. In the final theoretical chapter, there is a brief description of classical rhetorical elements (logos, ethos and pathos), their roles in the political discourse and the challenges they might represent for the interpreters. Development of rhetorics in the Slovenian and French areas is briefly presented. Throughout the entire thesis, the presentations and the comparisons of the relevenat theory from this field are interwoven with the comments and reflections of how a certain area affects the interpreters' work. The practical part brings the analysis of the interpretation of three French political speeches, performed by three interpreters- beginners. The selected speeches were pronounced by three French politicians; the first one by the current French president François Hollande, the second one by Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, current minister of education and the former minister for the women's rights and the official representative of the government at the time of the recording of the speeches. The third speech was pronounced by the former French president, Nicolas Sarkozy. The transcriptions of all the speeches can be found in the Annex 1.
