    The First World War marked an important turning point not only in the history of Europe, but also in the teaching process. The article deals with the question of what kind of impact this political ... event had on the concrete school practice in the gymnasium of the Habsburg Monarchy, which authors, works and citations are particularly suitable for the ignition of the patriotic pride and/or the fighting spirit and how the school was able to function as an important mechanism for the legitimacy of the war. In the focus of interest are high schools in the Slovenian ethnic territory. In this context, it is clear that the school process could not completely dissociate itself from the historical and social changes.
