    Contrastive analysis of modality and conversion of an infinitive in French clauses with modal and impersonal verbs In the master's thesis, we have analysed French sentences containing verbs that ... express desire, necessity, will, urgency, and permission and are followed by an infinitive. We have analysed the verbs désirer, permettre, souhaiter, impersonal verbs falloir and suffire, modal verbs devoir, pouvoir, vouloir and impersonal structure il est nécessaire. With the help of the FraSloK Corpus, we have checked if the infinitive that follows the abovementioned verbs in Slovene is preserved and if so, to what extent. We have also been interested in which form the infinitive is transformed in cases when it is not preserved. Furthermore, we have inspected the reasons for its preservation and in which cases the infinitive tends to be transformed into a different form. We have taken into consideration the hypothesis that the infinitive in the structure with the aforementioned verbs is mainly preserved. When comparing the originals and translations, it has turned out that the percentage of the preservation of the infinitive is relatively high. We have noticed that the preservation of the infinitive or its transformation into other forms depends on the translation of the verb that stands before it. Furthermore, we have noticed that the infinitive is mostly preserved by the verbs of desire and necessity. When the infinitive has not been preserved it has usually been transformed into a personal verb form which is most often part of a noun clause. We have also analysed the modality and its transformation into Slovene. We have assumed that the modality in the original text will also be preserved in the translated text. It has turned out that we were right; of course, there have been deviations, which has also been reflected in the semantic value of the translation.
