  • The use of literature in the EFL classroom : the impact of literary texts on improving student second language attitudes and motivation = Uporaba književnosti pri pouku angleščine : vpliv književnih besedil na odnos učencev do jezika in njihovo motivacijo : magistrsko delo
    Gorkič, Nina
This MA dissertation tries to analyse how the use of literary texts in the EFL classroom affects the motivation of students. Throughout the learning process, students may deal with different literary ... texts and activities accompanying them. The length and difficulty level of these texts can either motivate or dissuade the students from further study of the language. Because students identify themselves with the subject content right from the beginning of the learning process, and because - when learning to use a second language - they also develop a second identity, it is of utter importance to take into account the students' motives and interests, as well as the applicability and difficultness of the texts. There are several criteria to be met, such as the age of the students, their reading and writing abilities, and of course the cultural value of the literary text itself. The key question is: Do literary texts enhance students' motivation? Similar questions have been asked and researched internationally, but there is a lack of similar studies in our local context. Therefore, the purpose of this MA dissertation is to examine and take a comprehensive view of Slovene high-school students' motives and desires in connection to reading literature in English classes.
