    The purpose of this MA dissertation is to describe the contemporary American perception of their own westward expansion. This examination is conducted on three levels. Firstly, this notion is ... presented from a theoretical standpoint and special attention is paid to another prevalent concept, i.e. Manifest Destiny. Secondly and most extensively, the American Westward Expansion is then explained by contemporary authors and their works and therefore the largest part of the MA thesis is dedicated to the literary analysis. Last but not least, the thesis is given additional credibility and validity by the results as yielded from the online questionnaire that received more than 1,000 responses from all the 50 states. Therefore, in addition to a detailed and comprehensive overview of the contemporary perception of the American Westward Expansion, this dissertation can also serve as a precious source for future research. This is largely due to an enormous compilation of the questionnaire data, which is available for the public and can be accessed via the link as provided in the appendix.
