    Screening of every unit of blood for transfusion is a measure for preventing the transfer of an infection to the receptients. Causative agents which can betransferred by blood are tested: hepatitis B ... and C and AIDS viruses and the causative agent for syphilis. In Slovenia there are yearly on average 50 persons discovered as the carriers of HBsAg and 50 persons with present antibodies against hepatitis C. One with HIV infected person is on average discovered yearly and cca 30 persons who were infected or are infected with syphilis. All the positive blood units are destroyed. Blood donors are informed about their diseases and advised resp. referred to treatment.
