  • Quality in higher education : an example of implementing quality strategies in a free standing higher education institution

    This paper examines the implementation of quality startegies in College of management in Koper. Tn the first part some approaches to quality in educationare presented. The specific of higher ... education institutions - they are authorised to conduct quality control and regulate the standards of their activities for assuring the transparency of their activities as well as the responsibility towards the public. In the second part the paper focuses on theapproach towards establishing quality standards at the College of management, a freestanding higher education institute. In this respect, the concept of the process of establishing self-evaluation (within the framework of the action research) is presented. The College of management started the self-evaluation process in 1996/97 based particulary on student surveys, whilein the academic year 1998/99 this process has been extended to the development of the school`s "policy" (vision, mission, goals, strategies, development plan). The paper is concluded by a reflection on the importance ofthe participants` involvement in the improvement process to recognise the quality as a fundamental value, besauce the school`s performance depends crucially on the work of individuals in day-to-day activities of the institution.
