    Rodney King never testified on his own behalf during the 1992 trial of his four Los Angeles Police Department attackers. Instead, George Holliday’s video footage took the stand for him. To tens of millions of Americans, including Daryl Gates, the video provided ample proof for the jury to find the officers guilty. But a year later, the most consequential viewers of King’s beating were ten whites, an Asian American, and a Latina drawn from the conservative, mostly white Los Angeles suburb of Simi Valley, where a judge had moved the officers’ trial out of a concern for “fairness,” even though
