    Identification as multiracial brings with it a multitude of potential challenges, even in 2016. While there is a growing body of literature on the subject of mixedrace identity and an even more promising body of work focusing on critical mixed-race studies, people of mixed descent continue to experience a high degree of cognitive dissonance and ambivalence as a result of the perceived power and privilege they are able to obtain by occupying multiracial spaces. One form this dissonance can take is what I term the mixed-race metronomic subject, an individual who is assumed to identify mechanically or unvaryingly with the
