    Journal Article

Robert Browning parodied the Victorian fascination with corpses and making monuments to the dead by writing poetry where poets were involved in the resuscitation of the dead for their own aggrandizement. He sees the preservation of the dead not as an act of respect or worship but rather as a way to ignore the permanence of death and to rewrite the future by involving the dead through dramatic monologue.
