Hrvatsko sjemenarstvo ima dugu tradiciju u stvaranju, održavanju i proizvodnji sjemena poželjnih agronomskih svojstava. Sjemenarstvo je dugi niz godina imalo značajnu ulogu u hrvatskoj poljoprivredi, a vrlo rano je uočeno da je osnova sigurne merkantilne proizvodnje upravo sorta koja u pravilu najbolje rezultate daje na onom području gdje je stvarana. Organizirano ispitivanje sorti kod nas počelo je krajem 19. stoljeća te je sjemenarstvo prošlo put od manufakturnog oblika do moderne industrije sjemena. Zbog povoljnih ekoloških uvjeta, znanja, sjemena visoke rodnosti, dobro uspostavljene infrastrukture te dostupnosti istočnih i zapadnih tržišta domaće sjeme vrlo brzo je našlo krajnje korisnike. Hrvatski oplemenjivači i sjemenari u ovoj godini obilježavaju 130 godina nacionalnog sjemenskog programa, a ukupno je stvoreno 7.274 domaćih sorti i hibrida. U radu će se dati prikaz stanja u proizvodnji i certificiranim količinama sjemena, uvozu i izvozu sjemena te stanju proizvodnje sjemena u odnosu na druge države članice Europske unije Croatian seed sector has a long tradition in the creation, maintenance and seed production of high agronomic properties. Seed production has always played a significant role in Croatian agriculture, and it was noticed very early that thebasis of safe mercantile production is the variety that was created in the area where it gives the best results. Organized testing of varieties began at the end of the 19th century, and seed production transition manufactured form to the modern seed industry. Due to favorable ecological conditions, knowledge, highyielding seeds, well-established infrastructure, as well as the availability of eastern and western markets, domestic seeds quickly found users on the market.Croatian breeders and seed sector are celebrating 130 year of the national seed program this years, and a total of 7.274 domestic varieties have been created. The paper will present the presentation of the state of production and certified quantities of seeds, the import and export of seeds, and the state of seed production in relation to other EU member states.
