This article concerns the Dictionary of Old Bohemian Hymnographers (Slovník staročeských hymnografů, Prague 2017, 522 pp.), which lists the authors of Czech, German, and Latin sacred songs and hymnbooks from the thirteenth through the eighteenth centuries. The text opens with definitions of hymnography and hymnology as applied in this dictionary. There follow comments on the history of German and Czech hymnology. The author then comments on his own work on the volume RISM B XIII (Hymnologica Slavica, 2012) and reports on the project Das deutsche Kirchenlied as well as on his edition of printed melodies (EdK). The next section of the text deals with the current status of Czech hymnology and its future tasks. The article concludes with the author’s comments on the creation and contents of the Dictionary of Old Bohemian Hymnographers.
