    Journal Article

The Viking Age gold hoard from Fæstedwas discovered by amateur archaeologistsand excavated by SønderskovMuseum in 2016 and has since grownby several additional artefacts. The hoardhas been studied in several articles, some with more scholarly value thanothers. Three articles should be highlighted, which shed light on the hoard indifferent ways; an initial in-depth presentationof the find (Grundvad/Poulsen2020), a typological analysis of theJelling style‘s relationship to Gorm theOld and the Jelling dynasty‘s use of theNordic styles, where the hoard and theartifacts are used as a case (Grundvad/Knudsen 2017) and then an attempt tointerpret the hoard as a religious deposition(Grundvad 2022; Grundvad inpress). This article is the fourth in a plannedseries of analyses, each of which aims toilluminate the Fæsted hoard from differentperspectives. Thus, the goal hereis to ascertain the origin of the jewellryand artifacts from the treasure. It is clearthough, that this is far from feasible todo with all objects. For some artifacts, unambiguous relationships are clearto see. For some of the other objects, aslightly bold interpretation of origin willbe presented, where both distinctionsare made to the Roman imperial jewelleryseen in the iconographic sourcesand to the loot which the Vikings areknown to have brought home from raids. Finally, the aim is to present whatthe different origins reveal and how thehoard of gold artifacts seems intentionallyput together.
