For several decades, hydroxyl function containing polymer surfaces have been modified using isocyanate primers to improve the adhesion properties. In this study, sum frequency generation spectroscopy was applied to study epoxy polymer/isocyanate solution interfaces, confirming the presence of chemical bonds at the joining interfaces. Sum frequency generation spectroscopy was applied to confirm the presence of a chemical bond at the joining interfaces, suggesting that MDI primers can serve as a chemical bridge for urethane adhesives.
