    Averbach, Márgara

    Journal Article

In an analysis of translations of Native American literature, Averbach uses the idea of inverted proportion--oppressed cultures appropriating dominating cultures--together with the definition of translation from Eric Cheryfitz's "Poetics of Imperialism" to demonstrate that translation exerts violence on the thing being translated because it tries to express an idea through a significant which is not really equivalent.
