The team granted the aging Czech centre's wish for a release on Saturday after a telling Friday conversation between Jiri Dopita, his agent Peter Svoboda and general manager Kevin Lowe. Dopita earned, sorry, Dopita was paid about $785,000 US for being on the roster this long and the two sides reached a settlement figure, believed about 50 per cent, on the remaining $965,000 US in his contract. Lowe spent only a third-round pick to bring Dopita here from Philadelphia; as the fifth-rounder mentioned in the deal was conditional on Dopita re-signing, not resigning.
