Highlights • We assessed the usefulness of the UPSIT, B-SIT and SS-16 for PD diagnosis. • SS-16 sensitivity was 77.8% and specificity of 71.2% using a cut-off value of ≤9. • UPSIT sensitivity was 82% and specificity of 66% using a cut-off score of 25. • The sensitivity and specificity of the smell tests were lower than expected. • The development of a true cross-culturally smell identification test is warranted.
