Přesto někteří v době prázdnin nebo dovolených je umisťují do zvířecích útulků. Jeden zcela nový a nejmodernější v Evropě je u Vídně ve Vösendorfu. Je zde 373 boxů pro psy, pavilon s výběhem pro 15 koček, dokonce i stáje pro koně. O zvířata tu pečuje 100 lidí, z toho 4 zvěrolékaři. Útulek byl vybudován převážně z darů, dědictví a členských příspěvků sdružení ochránců zvířat. Velkou zásluhu na tom má prezidentka sdružení Lucie Loube. Ani po smrti zvířata nekončí v zapomnění. V Rakousku mají svůj hřbitov, kde už je pohřbeno více než tisíc domácích miláčků. Yet some of them put their pets in animal shelters at the time of holidays or vacations. One completely new and most modern shelter in Europe is in Vösendorf near Vienna. There are 373 boxes for dogs, a pavilion with a run for 15 cats and even stables for horses. 100 people take care for the animals here, including 4 vets. The shelter was built mainly from donations, inheritances and membership fees of the animal welfare associations. The great merit of it has the President of the association Lucie Loube. Even after death the animals do not end in oblivion. In Austria, pets have their own cemetery, where more than a thousand of them are buried. Jde o originální společný projekt České televize a Českého rozhlasu, který volně navazuje na Postřehy Karla Kyncla z Velké Británie a Francouzské postřehy Adolfa Bašty.
