  • Management of waste impregnated wood
    Humar, Miha ; Pohleven, Franci
Impregnated wood has been widely used for more than a century. One of the most extensive uses of treated timber are posts, sleepers and logs. This timber was generally impregnated with CCA, CCB, and ... creosote or with chlorinated cyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. With such treatment, the life cycle of treated wood is estimated to be about 40 yearsč the wood is then discarded as waste. Burning of the treated timber is not acceptable due to environmentaland economical reasons. Therefore, we are interested in new techniques that are more suitable for deterioration of impregnated waste wood. One of the options is the use of fungi for bio-recycling of waste wood through bioremediation, biodeterioration and bioconversion.
