  • Leaching studies on coal fly ash products
    Bole, Mojca ...
The fly ash being produced in the Thermal Power Plant Šoštanj (Slovenija) is used as a back filling material in the underground mine. To determine the possible impact of coal fly ash and its products ... (agregates containing fly ash, enamel and lime at different ratios) on the environment, the laboratory leaching investigations were performed. Standarized leaching procedures recommended by IEAE were applied and additionaly also other tests: acidity test, shake test, column test were performed. For determination of trace elements Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (GF-AAS), Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) and Total Reflection x-ray Spectrometry (TXRF) were used. The results indicate that the amount of the leached metals as well as the leaching kinetics strongly dependson the composition of fly ash composites. In some cases (leaching at extreme condition, pH=4) the concetration of some elements (Ni, Al, B) in the leachates exceeded recommended values.
