Life cycle stage and enterprise ethical climate [Elektronski vir] : case of Slovenian enterprisesBelak, Jernej ; Mulej, MatjažIn enterprise's functioning all stakeholders have their roles and every group of enterprise participants has its own interests (Thommen, 2003). If any of the interest groups fails to consider ... interests of others, a conflict evolves, which must be resolved, if the enterprise aims to survive and be successful. The interests of stakeholders develop and change, too, as the enterprise changes and develops over time. There is extensive body of literature on the concept of the organizational life cycle, which attempts to model the stages enterprises move through as they evolve from start-up to mature enterprise (Pümpin and Prange, 1991; Bleicher, 1994; Fueglistaller and Halter, 2005). In the economic science the biological life cycle was applied to describe and explain the developmental and growth changes of enterprises. Several authors refer to the enterprise life-cycle stages within which they describe different enterprise characteristics and problems. Pümpin and Prange (1991), as well as other authors, argue that no uniform management model exists as an answer to the problems of enterprises in different life cycle stages. While perspectives on the number and nature of specific stages in the life cycle differ, it is clear that organizational challenges and managerial approaches vary as the enterprise evolves (Morris, 2002). These developments would seem to have also ethical implications, although little research has addressed the relationship between life cycle stages and the enterprise ethics. Considering the scientifically recognised fact that in its functioning enterprise moves through different life cycle stages and that life cycle stages differ in the management system, formal structures, control systems, documentation of transactions, and fewer procedural hurdles (Morris, 2002), as well as in a part of processes, our main research question focused on the differences of enterprise's ethical climate in relationship with the phenomena of enterprise life cycle. Therefore our research was trying to determine the differences in enterprises' ethical climate dependable on their life cycle stage.Source: Congress proceedings [Elektronski vir] (Str. 337-348)Type of material - conference contributionPublish date - 2008Language - englishCOBISS.SI-ID - 9585692
