  • Quadriceps isokinetic peak torque values after 10-weeks of low frequency neuro muscular electro stimulation
    Dervišević, Edvin, 1958- ...
List of abbreviation:LF-NMES-low frequency neuromuscular electrostimulation, HF-NMES-high-frequency neuromuscular electrostimulation, MVC-maximal voluntary contraction, PT-peak torque, CSN-central ... nervous system, EMG-electromyography. Backgrounds: The aim of this study was to explore the effect of the LF-NMES on quadriceps isokinetic peak torque of healthy individuals. Material and methods: 20 Slovenian male athletes volunteered to take part in this study. They were subjected to 10 week training of quadriceps muscle with LF-NMES. Bilateral isokinetic measurements at three isokinetic speeds were performed initially and at the end of training. Data analysis was carried out by using the SPSS software package. Results: Results have showed that 10 week training with LF-NMES causes significant increases in the quadriceps peak torque on both legs. We did not find any differences between diferent isokinetic speeds. Conclusion: We believe that LF-NMES probably improves the switch between diferent muscle fibers through its action on type III nerve fibers.
