The purpose of introducing CIM to Strojna is to achieve the information integration of the complete manufacturing process, to set-up computer aided design and engineering, and to build a central data ...archive. This will result in a high level of manufacturing process integration, product optimization, product compatibility with international standards, ecological effects due to the rational use of raw materials, lowering the cost of overhead expenses and transfer of gained knowledge to similar enterprises in the Maribor industrial basin. The key professionals of the project beneficiary will be appropriately trained in computer aided engineering skills through their participation in the project and additional specialised courses will be provided by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Maribor. In the first year of our reseach the complete manufacturing process has been analysed. The analysis served as a basis for the development of the strategy of purchase of the necessary computer equipment and required development of our own software. A comparative study of different CAD computer systems appropriate for use in Strojna was conducted. Also a new computer system for complete calculation of spur gears together with the strength analysis has been developed and is already in use for the design and calculations of a new line of attachable gear assemblies.
